Will tv work in other regions

Hi I bought a new Sony lcd, I know that dvd has regional codes does the same work for tv and will my new tv work in a nother regional area eq Aus to South Africa ? Or will my new tv only work as a monitor

If you bought your TV in the UK, it will be PAL/NTSC compatible but may well not work with the broadcasting systems in other countries. France, for example, uses SECAM, and it will depend on the broadcasting systems used in Australia and SA.

It varies from set to set, but many flatscreen TVs will for example work on all variants of the PAL TV system - Australia uses PAL B/G and South Africa PAL I. The main difference between the various PAL version is how the sound is carried.

Check the specification of the set, and look at the TV standards it covers.

That said, with many countries increasingly switching to digital TV transmission, you may well find that if the TV won't receive the local broadcasts an inexpensive digital decoder box will do the job.
