Will The Sony HT ST5000 sound bar replace my Onkyo AV receiver adequately?

I am thinking of buying a Sony sound bar and wonder if it will replace my AV receiver as well as replacing all of my 7 wired speakers and my sub woofer. The sound bar was well received by What Hi Fi review.

Sound bars have come on in leaps and bounds over recent years with top models from Yamaha, Samsung and now Sony; however, they are no substitute for a discrete AV system with separate speakers and amp. (Which is always the way to go if at all possible)

In the end, only you can decide whether something is suitable for your requirement, so go along to a dealer and listen to a few to see if they suit.

Sound bar is the way to go only if space is a constraint
