i have a home cinama system that is about 10or11 years old the speakers i have are NHT model VT-1.2 to the front and MIRAGE OM-R2 to the back and i have a REL Q150E sub would this speaker package do for a moden day A/V receiver or would i have to update speakers as well. the av i am looking at is the sony STR-DA5400ES?

Yes, it would certainly do for now, although I think the Sony will eventually benefit from a speaker upgrade, as I explained in your other thread.

I'd say they're both exceptional products at their price-points, and you really should take a listen to both before you decide what to buy...

If you upgrade the speakers, keep the Rel Sub. You will find it hard to beat.
