I wanted to buy some BW685 speakers, but they fail the wife acceptance factor test. So I visited a shop for window shopping with the GF. She fell in love with these new speakers from B&W. They cost $25,000 per pair and are available in white and are with a diamond membrane. The sales guy said there were only 500 pairs made and they are called the diamond series.

Unfortunately they are out of the budget. He recommended a CM series that will be available in piano black for Xmas. The piano black would be acceptable, but the GF prefers white

What are some nice and affordable surround speakers sets that pass the Wife Acceptance factor. I am looking at limiting my spending for a 5.1 set to 3000£ or 2500€ if I can. Quality and Hifi should be top priority, but then with a good design and style. She just hates boxes and wants glossy white with rounded corners hahaha

Couldn't you get a B&W XT package for about £3k?

They seem like fairly decor (and wife!) friendly speakers to me.

Is the XT package capable fo good music as well as surround sound? The living room is about 35m2.

Vivid Audio is gorgeous. She might even help pay for them

The XT package would be fine though the complete package is closer to £4G. Monitor Audio Radius is worth a look.

Yep, I second that!

I, personally, consider myself to be a very lucky man...I got the thumbs up from the Mrs. on my hawking-great NAD / AE1 classic system, but only after she had heard it. To say that she was 'unsure' when she first saw the set-up would be a gross understatement. Perhaps I'm one of the lucky few!

Yup, I had exactly the same experience with my other half and the 685s. Fortunately, I didn't get on with them anyway. She stills coos over my Epos though, especially the sub.

Not related to the guy who's looking for a white amp perchance?

or....

The cone shaped ones were good enough for Batman....

The important question should be..

Does the GF match the hi-fi?

And do you get a say in the aesthetics of all her cr@p? (Don't attempt an answer as we know it already!)

You're not a divorce lawyer for a living by any chance Chebby old son?

No. Been married (still married) to same woman since 1981 and living in same house, all together with 16 and 22 year old daughters.

I have just a little experience of living with women.
