just wanted to know how to get my av amp to show dolby true hd, when i play blue ray disc from ps3 it comes up PCM, i've read on this forum that pcm is just as good as true hd, but just would like to hear true hd myself, sad i know. my amp is yamaha 763.

Hello,

You might ver well be hearing TrueHD. The original film soundtrack is PCM, often on the disc as plain PCM. The disk may alos have the PCM soundtrack zipped up, (in TrueHD or DTS MA format).

Your PS3 sends PCM to the amplifier, either by grabbing the plain PCM or unzipping the TrueHD or DTS-MA to PCM, (you should be able to select).

So you'll always see the amp say PCM.

thanks, the film in question was james bond which says on the case dolby true hd, i know there are some blue ray films that say recorded in pcm, does this mean ps3 always plays pcm.

The PS3 always outputs Linear PCM, either by playing that soundtrack where available or converting Dolby HD/DTS-HD formats to LPCM.
