If you have sky / cable, surround speakers and an amp. Why bother buying a "tv" with speakers and tuner etc?? Why not get a professional plasma??

I have now decided on the major parts of my new system, but am now left with the above question. I think the idea of a super sleek panel is much more attractive than any of the TV's i was considering. The guys at the hi fi shop suggested that the professional panels are superior.

Your thoughts?

Thanks

In some cases this is true but more often than not you have to pay more for the superior professional displays. Just look at the planar range and the pioneer display ranges. Both more expensive than their counterparts. And if you can afford that why not get the best normal tv you can afford? (pioneer 9 series?)

Well, you get a product designed for business use at business prices :). Whether that's _better_ depends on how well your requirements match those of the original target market - If it's designed to be carted round exhibitions then the build quality may be sturdier, and if (for example) it's designed for a shopfront display it may have been optimised for brighter ambient light than most home settings; on the other hand, if it's designed for accurate colour reproduction and consistency the that's probably a plus. Business pricing may be a pain though....

To be honest watching the news/wifes soaps/kids nick jr2 etc in surround sound doesn't really appeal to me. I rather just keep that for films weather on tv or dvd. Plus also don't want booming bass from the sub when the little ones are upstairs asleep. Just my thoughts on it.
