Hi, I have recently been thinking about upgrading my current home cinema system. I have narrowed it down to either a new subwoofer or a new surround receiver. My current subwoofer (Paradigm PDR-10) and receiver (Sony STR-DB840 ) have served me well over the last 10 years, but I need some help on deciding which component to upgrade first and some recommendations on which models to audition. My budget as £500. My system is used for Movies, Music and Gaming: Sony KDL-32W5500 Television; Sony STR-DB840 Receiver; Sony PS3 Slim; KEF KHT-2005.3 + Paradigm PDR-10 Subwoofer; QED Performance HDMI; TCI Coral Optical; Chord Carnival Silver Screen. Thanks

If it were me i would upgrade the reciever first as your Kef speakers are ok & as long as the PDR-10 sub is still in good order you should notice a significant gain in the HD audio quality. I would suggest you maybe wait a month or so for the newer amps come out. Unless you are in a rush, in which case have a listen to the Yamaha RX-767, Denon 2311, Pioneer VSX-920 or the Onkyo TXNR609 all under the £500 range now.

Agree. With the new audio formats. An upgrade to the receiver could be best.
Richer Sounds has the Yamaha RXV667 at £250, which is a complete bargain, and loads of change too to put towards further upgrades

If you would spend your budget on the AVR, Sevenoaks have a stunning deal on the AVR2311 for only £449 instead of £820.
