Which Sub

Hi

I'm building a second 5.1 system in a new room and need to choose a sub. The front speakers will be a pair of Monitor Audio R180HDs and an R225HD. The rears will be a pair of R90s. The reviews of the R370HD sub weren't that great. Would I be best sticking with the R370 or going for a different brand? Ideally I don't want to spend more than about £300 but don't mind second hand.

Thanks

Consider the BK XXLS 400, excellent piece of kit, for more grunt then the BK Monolith

Both can be had at prices around your budget second hand or about £400 and up new.

Take a look at AV Forums classifieds and of course E Bay

I don't htink you will get anything better for the budget you are looking at!

I have the R370HD and find it lovely - although I've not compared it to other subs in my room. I like the degree of control on the amp itself (volume and music or movie settings) and it works seamlessly with my other Radius speakers (see sig).

Having said that I'm not a total bass freak. I like the grunt there when required (when playing Massive Attack for example), but like to have a fairly even balance across the frequency range. It works well for my tastes and used or ex-demo, ought to come just within your budget.

I thought they were referring to a classifieds section on the WhatHiFi site. Obviously not!

Just Google "AV Forums", that will take you there.

And there is a BK XXLS 400 in the Classifieds, down firing, for £310............................offer £280 and see where it takes you

They are so worth the money!
