I have looked on the label on the back of the tv, but no clues there?

also tried to check by looking in the settings menu. again no joy.

For what reason do you need to know what panel is fitted.

I have to agree with simoncar,

since theres only a couple of manufacturers in the world that makes LCD panels which i believe would be Sharp and LG, it should not matter (probably be told otherwise), i believe its what makers of the likes of Sony, Samsung, Panasonic etc put into their sets that make them what they are, an LCD panel is just an LCD panel, its what electronics that go into the sets that brings them to life.

Thats incorrect

Sony for example give their 'specs' to certain factories. Invariably, some factories are better at producing those specs than others, and is why you cant say a 32" is the same as a 40" of the same model as the panels have been made in different factories. if you look around online youll find certain panels produce bad effects onscreen

I understood that Sony and Samsung have a Joint panel manufacturing facilty in Korea.

Yes, it's called S-LCD. Then there's Panasonic in Japan, and a variety of manufacturers in Taiwan and China, some of whom produce huge numbers of panels.
