Having read all the reviews and posts on the forums I am now sold on a sonus system, but which one? All my music will source from an imac.I have 3 zones which comprises 1 upstairs bedroom and two rooms downstairs one of which which incorperates an open plan kitchen. my main question is do i have 1 play 5 in each room downstairs an 1 play 3 upstairs. or is it better to have a pair of play 3s as a stereo pair? Or combinations of both. I have budget of around £1000. All ready have ipad2 so controller is no problem(although my ipad doesnt always come home with me but thats an issue for another day)

Right, firstly it's SonOs.

As to the combinations, difficult to say without knowing how big the rooms are but bear in mind you will need to wire one Sonos device to your router, if you can't do that with one of the players you'll need to get a Sonos Bridge as well (£39 or you may be able to get one thrown in). As mentioned in your previous thread, it's also advisable to wire the music source, otherwise Sonos won't support you if you have any issues (they'll basically ask you to wire the iMac and if the problems go away they'll tell you that's the solution, which it probably is).

As a general rule of thumb though I believe that quality wise the order is considered to be:

1x Play:3,

1x Play:5,

2x Play:3,

2x Play:5,

You can also add the new Sonos SUB to any of the above combinations, although clearly that'll be a big chunk of your budget (£600). Perhaps save that for another time...

I bought a WD myBook live for £100, which avoids having the computer running all day/night.

Do you have any existing hifi? you can look for a Zone:Connect (aka ZP90) too. Or if you have existing speakers, a Connect:Amp (aka ZP120).

fair enough, but you may get a better experience integrating it to your existing set-up and getting rid of CD players etc.

I swapped a Sony mini system in the bedroom for a Sonos Connect:Amp and Kef iQ30 speakers (ex-demos picked-up for the bargain price of £180), and then added the Sonos Connect to my AV amp (Denon 3312 and B&W 685s).

I'll probably add a Play:3 in the kitchen eventually, and perhaps get a Play:5 for the son and heir when he's a bit older.
