I'm looking for a 40-46inch LED TV which must be fairly future-proof. I've read your reviews on certain Samsung & Philips TVs which would seem to fit the bill. However, the new Sony line up looks very appealing. I've decided against 3D as I feel it would be a solitary experience, but I would like Freeview HD built in & also widgets & perhaps internet. I am also looking to eventually purchase Virgin Media as I feel it would better serve my needs than Sky.

Can you recommend a TV to make me happy?

You mention futureproof...

In the end, both freeview HD and freesat and the internet jiggery pokery can be gained via buying extra boxes. 3D on the other hand would need a new TV. Therefore a 3D TV might actually be what you are looking for.

However... I can't recommend one over another because I have only seen one (the sony).

My vote would go to LG LE850.

A very good TV, with almost perfect black levels (of course due to LED local dimming), but more importantly shadow details are not completely sacrifised as a consequence.

The scanning backlight is working beautifully, and colour reproduction is good. Finally the TV has some nice calibration options.

Thanks for clarifying the model number maxflinn. I must admit this was unclear to me. In Denmark the TV is named LE 850N. I know the N is for 'Nordic'. Therefore my best guess would be LE 850 in the UK, but these model numbers are not always easy to guess...

It's actually the LE 8900 in the UK.
