I am looking for a CD player on a budget. Having bought the Sony BDP-S360 blue ray player which is connected to my Samsung LCD through HDMI. The problem with this set up is that when listening to music (Heavy Metal) I have to leave the TV on as switching it off causes the Blue ray player to shut down also. So I'm planning a CD player and have picked two and wondered what you thought, the CD player will be connected to my Yamaha RX-V396RDS with Yamaha NX 210P surround speakers. Not the best system I know but I got the Amp, Speakers and SWP201 Sub for £250. Which of these would you suggest.... TEAC CDP1260 CD PLAYER or Teac CD-P1160D - CD player

For CD listening, switch the TV off first (ie don't leve it on standby) and then fire up the BDP. It will work fine with the TV off.

Hi there and thank you for the help.
Unfortunately I did think of that but as it's all running through a surge protected extension cable it means pulling the unit out, unplugging then having to go through the whole thing again to watch TV.
As my birthday is coming up I thought a CD player would be nice and easier to use.

Go for the cheapest one - I just saw the 1160 at Richer Sounds for £79.95. With respect, and my opinion only, the rest of your set up doesn't warrant anymore than that. I really don't think you would hear any benefit whatsoever. The alternative is to have a separate stereo interconnect running from BD player to your amp and a play around with your tv and bluray settings should enable you to not need the tv on. This should allow you to listen to cds through the BD player without the screen on and I don't think you would hear any difference than if you bought one of the TEAC cdps.

Thanks Gerrardasnails.
My system is pretty naff but I hope to replace it next year to the Sony STR-DG820 or Sony STR-DH800
and the Q Acoustics 1010i 5.1 speaker package.
Unfortunately Hubby restricts the spending amount.
I have gone through everything I can think of as well as the Blue Ray players manual and nothing seems to work, it's listen to music with TV on or don't listen....very annoying.
Will defiantly go with your choice.
Thanks again.

Forget new at this price Maiden Fan (rock on!) and go down the used route here. Far better options at this end of the scale and you'll do fine. Richer Sounds have the Cambridge 340C the Sonata CD30 for about £80, and new of course having said all that, the former probably being the pick of the two.

Check out Gumtree for some great deals local to wherever you are - there's a good stereos and audio section on there now and it's easy to search UK wide if you want.

Which tv and bd player do you have?

I think the upgrade you require is to your 'hubby mk1'. Its unusual as its normally the 'wife mk 1' that affects a systems performance and upgrade route. Have you got one of those mains blocks that switches everything else off?

Doesn't the TV have a thing on the side called an "on/off button"?
