depends what you will be using it for. The onkyo came out top in the mag. However I brought the yamaha 667 as it has better stereo performance and I have had a yamaha before. Also yamaha have just taken £100 off the retail price so is now very hard to beat £ for £

I demod the 920, 1911, and a couple of Yamahas, lower end and high end.

For me the Denon was the one to go for, especially for music. Detailed and exciting, with very good bass control. Bass was more mushy and the sound laid back on the Yamahas, though they did tend to have a very natural sound. The 920 was detailed, but lacked solidity and the bass wasn't well controlled.

But many people prefer the others. I think it really is down to the kind of sound you like.

The Onkyo is very well rated but given its size, and that it's got a fan, and I'd seen in reviews it issues a hiss in quiet scenes, I avoided it.

I've been very happy with the Denon for £399.

Given the amps you've mentioned so far it may be out of your budget but you can now get the £800 Denon 2311 for little over £600.....
