Hi, do you have any plans to review the cm9? As it's meant to sit in-between the 800 series, good speaker but hard to drive, and the 700s, which are on the way out, my dealer says!

We'll be doing the CM range very soon, starting with the CM5s in the April issue (on sale March 11th). The nice man from B&W is on his way with them right now.ÿ

Thanks for the quick reply. They look very nice, hopefully they sound as nice. Judging by the stats, are they going to be as hard to drive as the 800s, or will my two 8 powers(in mono) drive them ok?

I've used the CM7 with a variety of equipment and find them a bit sluggish and woolly sounding. Arcam's A38 seems to work reasonably as does anything with good bass control and precise sound so your 8 mono's should be ok. A lot of box for the money and it obviously depends on how you like your music presented but there's imo much better products around, especially for the price of the 9's. PMC, ProAc just to name two. Perhaps you can post your findings.

My partner has the CM7's matched with her Cyrus 8v2 integrated and bi-amped with an XPower/8 CDP and they sound sublime.

Ive never found them to be wooley at all but thats IMO and probaly our taste in music as well.

To me they have a solid soundstage; great bass weight which is fast and punchy; the midrange is smooth and detailed and the treble is bang on!

It took us a while to get them sounding right; they have been toe'd in now to a point about 1 foot behind the listening position

Will be interesting to see the CM5 & CM9 reviews; the CM5's could be of interest 🙂

Fair play. I like the CM1's if a small speaker with decent bass is needed.

I'm looking forward to the CM5.

There seems to be a gap in the current B&W standmount range without them.

Yeh, sure, will post my findings when i hear them. I am trying to audition other speakers, namely the proac d18s and maybe the ma gs 20 or 60. I am finding it very hard to audition because no-one in glasgow has any of these speakers in stock, waiting on the d18's for 2 weeks now, and the cm's dont arrive in the shop till march.

Yes, I have the CM1s which I like very much and wonder if the CM5 is an upgrade on them, can't wait for the review...........

I was having a nosey at the M/A GS60's at the weekend at the local hifi store in Preston; i was nearly escorted out for dribbling...

Id love a set of those one day!

The CM1s are my favorite monitors in their price range... While I expect the CM5 to sound even better, I do have to question whether they are a great value for money... considering that the CM7 is just a shade more expensive than the CM5 + the matching stands...

Simon,

Any early indication of how good the CM5 will be compared to the CM1? I've just bought the Roksan K2 amp with a pair of CM1s. I have to wait for Mar / April for the black CM1s anyway and I'm just wondering if I should wait for the CM5s.....

I think they'd make a much more impressive pairing with the Roksan and would just like an insiders opinion if possible... without giving away any results for the April issue of the mag (v cheeky I know : )

I've just read that Shaun has dropped off the CM5s so any early indications on how good these speakers are.... (still pursuing my cheeky line of enquiry!!!!! ; )

ianr23gp:Simon,

I'd love see a comparison of the CM5 with the CM7 (since as I said earlier, the CM5 & matching stands costs about the same as the CM7)... CM5 & CM7 have the same tweeter. The CM5 is a 2 way design with a 6.5 inch mid/bass driver... while the CM7 is a three way with a dedicated 5 inch FST mid and a 6.5 inch bass driver... 'On paper', the CM7 should be a much better value for money (and sound a lot better) than the CM5 + matching stands...

Do you already have stands or just prefer monitors over towers?

Ajani,

My set up has to fit around the custom DJ stand I've built for my laptop / mixer / soundcard and new HiFi. As much as I'd love to have dedicated floorstanding speakers, I can use the built in speaker stands for my monitors (either the CM1 / CM5 with a Roksan Kandy amp / CD player... on order and can't wait ; )
