Where is the current music with the QUALITY of.....

...the Philadelphia International record label of the mid 70s?
The equivalent vocal qualities of Teddy Pendergrass, Lou Rawls, Jean Carne and Loleatta Holloway?
The tuneful, real instrument playing talent of M.F.S.B./The Salsoul Orchestra?

Where can I go to find the modern equivalent of such talent?
I put it to you all that I can't go anywhere.

Honestly, I hear so much talk about great new music discovery.
But the new stuff I hear is weak and pathetically poor.

If you know and really appreciate the stuff I mentioned in the first paragraph (real instruments, played tunefully by real musicians)......help me out here 🤔

Some years ago, early 2000´s found some Lp´s that were from unknown bands , i´m not sure but i think highschool bands were refered, on spotify you can search the band you refer in the end and more of the same style will appear, also a fan of late 60´s early 70´s funk bands or big bands, the cd version is not so good sounding or detailed, I refer Spotify as when i had it first, i found a lot of great bands that the recordings existed but no one knew who had recorded them

Music tastes change, and what one person finds to be quality, is another persons rubbish, it all comes down to personal preference.
Also what is the definition of a real instrument, as many new instruments have been developed over time that operate completely differently to older instrument.

True, only today and not only a lot of bands plays with 60´s or 70´s instruments ,including keyboards, now i just remembered one of the most guitars in use is from the 50´s ,well more than one guitar model,

like tube amplifiers ,i remember a time when no one wanted them, the reason i have two , also effects , the 60´s pedals to six string guitars are a lot in use, are being the most in use and in different types of music,

like in a concert i went from a Cuban musician ,young one and his records are the tradicional music style we know as Cuban music but in the concert was a trio and he was a perfect executioner of piano and keyboards, at some point it felt like old Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Tarkus ,

he really knew about keyboards only is albums are horrible not even similar. i wanted to write his name but i can´t remember, Roberto Fonseca his is name.

Old music, in the 90´s i saw live twice Hedningarna , the use of old instruments, really old was actractive and live i saw a crowd of young people all jumping when a very ancient instrument was connected to a distortion pedal, the HippJokk tour, and already had Trä and Kaksi! albums at the time, after was Marylin Manson when they released antichrist superstar, they burned a American flag after cleaning is behind with it

The sampling brigade have certainly appreciated the quality of proper musicians 👍
Also what is the definition of a real instrument
Something that requires real skill to play - something that I would have trouble making music with - not the sort of stuff, where I could press a few buttons and make something that would now be regarded as passable music.

How to tell you are getting old without saying so 🙂
True, I'm no longer in my twenties Vincent 😉
However, I've lost count of the number of comments from twenty somethings under YT videos of mid 70s soul / funk.....wishing they'd been around at the time.

Don't know about anyone else, but when I was in my twenties, I most certainly didn't wish I'd been amongst the music of previous decades.
The fact that many kids of today wish they'd been around for Philly / Motown music - tells me something.
(At least they've often heard samples of proper stuff).

...seriously.
It's easy to dismiss me as being old but who / where, for example, is the current equivalent of 'Songs In The Key Of Life' era Stevie Wonder?
(He got some music out of electronics)
A modern day artist of equal talent?

I'm keen to be pointed in the right direction - but I'm not optimistic.

i really think that what can be considered freedom was achieved by youth in the 80´s and 90´s or 70´s in Ibiza, a reflex of wanted by a older generation ,

i saw it happening , i used to go camping for two monthes on a beach and i used to say to my family "In a house i´m all year around, prefer camping"so i was left alone,

and yes each diferent decade youth prefers the past, thinking only good things happened also "the music was better"it´s like diesel mercedes ,

each generation prefers the 20 year old model ,in 2010 kids wanted the 190D 2.5 but happy with a 190D confort, safety, and low comsuption,

in Portugal they had not stopped being sold was common as the citroen dyane in the 70´s,

i was ofered in 2018 a 190E 2.0 gasoline automatic , new from Mercedes , was forgoten somewhere, a dutch friend of mine worked for Mercedes before retirement, not as a dealer or mechanic, in reality i never knew what he did there ,

it´s like hi-fi gear, 70´s i think it were the best in quality of sound and they do sound better, if anyone doubts of it, presenting a specific model i´ll reply telling a superior component to the refered from the 70´s
