Hi,

Surely these days with an ever increasing number of people moving to flat screen TVs, and many of us hanging them on the wall, we should expect to be spoilt for choice when it comes to similarly sleek but high quality centre speakers shouldn't we?

My dilemma: Currently very happy with Spendor fronts and centre (S6s and S5c respectively), but am considering putting a fireplace under the Plasma. Spendor cente will be too deep to fit on any type of mantlepiece, so I would like to find a similar quality replacement that is either flat, or at least not too deep (say 18-20 cms max). I'm struggling!!

I can't be the only one trying to do this can I? Has anyone got any suggestions?

Try the KEF T301c or the MA sound frame there is also the MA radius HD 225/250 or MA Apex A40, although I'm not sure how these will sound with your other speakers.

Firstly is putting a heat source near your plasma a good idea?

Secondly the general agreement is to have the centre speaker from the same range as your main fronts.

He will need to check on the heat dispersion pattern from the fire, also the type of flue will have an effect. He may have a surround which will shield the TV and speaker to some degree.

If it's a new install, most modern fire manufacturers should have some sort of illustration of the dispersion.

I have my TV above a 6kw flush fitting natural gas, log effect fire, I checked the dispersion pattern and the heat comes out over 200mm from the wall prior to it rising, although I never have it switched on, when it is, the TV is not effected / does not get warm (fires are designed to radiate heat forward before it rise, so it heats the room).
