When You Turn Your TV Off?

When you turn your tv off, do you:

1. Put the tv in standby and leave it in standby.

2. Put the tv in standby and power off on the main switch, on the tv.

3. Just power off on the main switch of the tv.

The reason i am asking is because i was just reading the manual and it clearly states "standby mode" first when turning off and i can't say i have ever done it that way, i have always turned a tv with the power off on the main switch off the tv first. So what is the correct way of doing it and why?

Cheers for the input here.

Well, now you know.

Doesn't matter what we do or what our TV's instructions say. Best to follow yours.

Thanks, it does not feel right though, after always doing it another way, and i still don't understand the logic behind it here, why would you go in "standby mode" first?

Cheers

Standby mode is a form of protection circuit as well as standby mode

You ever hear speakers go 'pop' when certain amplifiers are turned off? Same here except its a way of protecting the tvs circuitry

The LG plasma's of late don't even have an off button - confused me for a fair while! Hardly Eco-friendly in these modern times... I'm sure Tesco's staff not letting me have carrier bags more than makes up for it though! ;)

They tried that here once. Lots of arguments at the cash tills and trolleys full of shopping abandoned as people walked out. There were trolleys full of shopping left all over the supermarket as word got around. Staff were doing nothing but replacing stuff back on shelves and dumping partly thawed frozen goods. (They couldn't take any chances on how long the stuff had been there.) Carriers bags were back the next day :)

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous really - also the "Do you need a hand with your packing?" - "Er, no thanks, I think I can manage this Mars bar all by myself ta."...

Making me ask for a bag when I have 50+ items is just as infuryating. It's not going to save the planet if I don't, or indeed anyone or number of people don't take a plastic bag!

Personally I turn mine off using the remote and then turn the power off on the TV button as I place the remote on the TV cabinet (so I can find it!!).

I generally just turn all of my equipment off at the mains switches. I find it easier than messing around with the multifunction remote or remotes to put them all into standby 1st.

Cheers for the responses guys. Well i decided to phone the manufacturer up in the end to see what they thought. Smile You can do it whatever way you like, some people like to leave it in standby and some people just turn it off by the main power switch. Whatever way round you do it, it does not matter. Big Smile.

I hit standby on the remote, switch off the physical button on the screen and the turn its power socket off, the media box is plugged in elsewhere in the room and stays in standby.

See this from reading the manual is the way i got it my head you have to do it, but when i asked them, they just said either way you like, and as i have always just done the physical button on the screen i think i will go that way again. I always wondered with your tv mate "the 500a with the tuner" how it worked, cheers for the info.

With the 500A I think if you just use the power switch on the screen it won't put the media box into standby, otherwise I'd probably just use the physical button myself. I definitely wouldn't just turn it off at the wall though.

That is a very good point, and a lot of Pioneer tvs did come with tuners throughout the years, so it certainly makes a lot of sense that way. Interesting, cheers mate.
