Hi looking at purchasing either an Arcam Diva A85 or Mrantz PM7200 KI Signature amplifier. I mainly listen to RnB, Rap/ Soul and Drum and Bass. I do not listen to cassical. I just wondered what is a good quality amplifier which has got lots of power at least 80 watts and a good quality power supply such as a Toroidal power transformer to ensure good speaker drivability. Im using B&W DM601 S3 speakers. What do you think of the Arcam and the Marantz for sound quality. I beleive these speakers are quite hard driven. I know tone controls are disliked by many but I prefer amps with them on. Im after buying one used.

If you want more bass I think the Arcam might be your bet. But... I dunno I don't think either suit your listening tastes...

As for toridal transformers, I think they're pretty much standard kit on anything reputably calling itself 'hifi' these days. Entry levels from marantz, ca, nad etc all have toroids.

As many of the guys on this forum will tell you, it depends on the sonic character you're looking for. I personally like both, but recognize that the two are very different (sorry if I'm stating the obvious).

With the B&W's i'd go with the Arcam, because it has a more neutral sound with lashings of detail. Like you I believe tone controls still have credance, eapecially if you have limited space or young family or neighbours - or all three. . .

try the new roksan kandy amp if you can live with the looks - the sound won't disapoint

no tone controlds n u will have to buy new

this could be worth a look
