Hello all

I have just bought one of the new Samsung 46C8000 tv's. As its going to be wall mounted I want to make sure I get the cabling right. As I understand it to make use of the 3D (not that I expect to right away) I need a HDMI v1.4. I have had a quick look for these on the Internet and can only find really cheap <£5 offers, none of the major compaines seem to be doing them - e.g. no sign on the Chord or QED web sites, also no sign of any reviews (perhaps I am looking in the wrong place). I am going to need to buy 3 cables, all at least 1.5 metres and don't mind paying if they are any good - I said no to the Monster ones offered in Curry's as they were £130 each! On the other hand I don't want to spend a fiver and find I have compromised quality - any ideas?

Thanks

I have contacted Chord and asked if their Active Plus HDMI was capable of 1.4 as i own one myself and the answer was YES, obviously there is no Audio Return and Ethernet feature but will carry 3D signals with no problems.

But...

If you want to pick up a bargain 3D capable HDMI cable from a reputable company, check this link out:

http://www.divineaudio.co.uk/video-cables/hdmi-cables/audioquest-forest-hdmi-cable-1m/prod_1809.html

It's from a company called AudioQuest who have very good reviews from What Hi-Fi but this is the new HDMI cable called "Forest" which is version 1.4, 3D capable with Audio Return and Ethernet capabilities for £32.00 delivered, that is a bargain i think! The 5 or 6 metre version won 5 stars from What Hi-Fi which says something.

The quality of the picture or sound will not be any better from a 200 quid cable than a 5 quid cable. You may want to pay a little extra to get a better quality of manufature i.e. a cable that will live longer before physical failure through wear and tear, but ignore anything you read or hear about better colour, contrast, picture, sound etc etc etc

I agree with the Pana man.Go for the Audioquest and it does make a difference...I tried it with scarts and component leads and they do give you a better picture with less noise.

QED have rated all their HDMI cables against the HDMI - Standard and HDMI - High Speed ( the new terminology for HDMI 1.4 ) , neither of these include the ethernet channel element of the HDMI 1.4 standard though. There are also some length restrictions , to bear in mind. The QED HDMI Performance is rated HDMI Standard for lengths between 1 and 20m , but HDMI - High Speed only up to lengths of 3m. In the Reference range you have HDMI - Standard for lengths up to 10m ( they don't do cables longer than that ) but HDMI- High Speed up to 5m. QED Signature range is also rated HDMI High Speed up to 5m ( nax length available) .

It's up to you but the Signature range was so over spec'd for HDMI 1.3 that it has the best chance of staying with you over the years as data rates increase ( probably - no guarantee ) as long as an ethernet channel doesn't ever look required. That may be something to bear in mind if you are going to be plastering it into your wall.
