This is my first foray into TV's for a long time, so please bear with me.

I was in my local M&S at lunchtime and saw a Philips 42pfl9664 for £999 and also the 32pfl9604 for £599. I would obviously prefer the larger one, but I think that my wife may win out and want the 32".

My question is, what is the difference (apart from size) between the two? due to various factors the smaller one may be best for us, but I just want to check on if i would be missing out on the 42".

Hi,

The tiny URL showing the differences on the Philips website is here...

After going through the same process a year ago, I narrowed it down to the same models. My viewing distance is ~3m and have not been disappointed with the 32pfl9604. I get a complement now and then! My other strategy is that in due course it will become our second telly where 32" is big enough.

I'm yet to view anything apart from the demo in HD so some more exitement to come.

Cheers

Peter.

Not sure about the specs or difference between the two tv's, but as for size you really should go for the biggest tv your room will allow. All this will depend on viewing distances and unless you have got a small lounge then i would definetly look at 37" and bigger. Also the use of the tv, smaller tv's will show a better picture for freeview and a sharp picture for gaming while dvd will also look good, larger tv shows up any imperfections and generally the picture from freeview, games consoles and dvd will look worse. If you feed it hd material then they come to life, sky hd, blu-ray hd-dvd will look stunning and viewing distances will change again. Let us know what your uses are and other equipment then im sure yoll get more response.
