What size screen?

Looking to put a new TV on the wall and weighing up between 40" and 46" screen. Would be sat about 8 feet from the screen at an angle.

There are all sorts of suggestions as to the best screen size - anybody any ideas?

I just replied to your other post. You seem confused and need to look at a few sets yourself. I would'nt go larger than 46 at 8ft seating distance, perhaps even 42" in which case you should look at Philips's 'Essence' set, forgot the model number. Its about £1700 and well worth it. Looks gorgeous too.

Problem is, whilst HD looks fine at 8ft on 46", Standard Definition won't. Good luck

Personally 42 max, but perhaps 37" would be ideal, after all you are only some 2.5 metres from the screen

Definitely 40" or 42" - not 46". ÿBe careful not to mount it too high or you'll suffer from very annoying neck-ache!

I'd go for a 42'' plasma and although a lot of people set it on a wall above head height...... don't as this is a mistake ! Optimum setting should be aroud 'eyes-centering'' just around the half-height of your screen and in doing so will stop any chance of getting a sore neck : )

What srt of angle are you talkng about here? You will find a Plasma offers better off-axis veiwing over LCD and if you were to go for a 42" Plasma you will get IMHO much better value for money over simular sized LCDs.

But definatly dont mount it too high as far too many people do!

Just to make a point that there is always one exception to the rule, Pioneer's Kuro Plasmas are not great when viewed at anything even approaching acute angles, loosing both brightness and colour saturation quickly. I've seen quite a few LCD that display better at angles. No idea why the Pioneers are not that great, perhaps something to do with the 'deep waffle' (yes

) structure that apparently separates individual pixels with, you guessed it, higher walls and makes colour/light bleed more unlikely. Ying 'n Yang, for every action there's an opposite re-action ...

i have a 46 inch plasma and sd from just over 8 ft is not bad , its a lower spec 1080p panasonic from last years range , the new ones would propably be better , however id say you would find a 42 inch fine , if you are going to watch a lot of hd the 46 incher would be nicer , more movielike .........
