im going to be doing a bit of juggling around of my system, and alas my rx6's have to go[🙁], they're a luxury i can't afford at the moment so im going to get myself a paypal account and stick em on ebay.ie. they're only 5 months old so i should hopefully recoup 70% of my outlay..

im keeping my marantz pm7000, and ill probably keep my cdp too, so ill be needing a pair of decent cheap speakers, and them missions you always reccomend sound just the ticket, i know they will be old and wont be as nice to look at as my rx6's, but thats fine, i just want decent sound for small money..

so i was hoping you might give me the exact model numbers of the ones you rate rs? i would prefer floorstanders but would also consider standemounts, whatever comes at the right price really, and can be delivered here from the uk, as i doubt ill find them on ebay.ie..

it will probably take me a few weeks to get rid of the rx6's, but id like to keep an eye on whats what in the meantime.. cheers..

He has Mission 752s (original, non-freedom version I believe).

Just about all the Mission 75x range was impressive although you should probably steer clear of the 754s as they need a bit of room to breath.

thanks guys, ill have a look on the bay

752's here, buy it now £169. decent condition too. only uk post though, and even thats £20, there are none on ebay.ie, looks like i may have a difficult job getting some unfortunately..

Out of interest as I wanted to hear a pair in action, I was in for a pair of the 752 Freedom variety that were going on Ebay a day or two ago, local to me so collection no problem. Anyway common sense prevailed and I decided to save my money and not pursue them to the end. One or two minor cosmetic blemishes but apparently in good working order, they eventually went for £62.00! Not sure how much the eventual buyer would have gone up to if I'd continued my interest, but assuming that they were in good working nick then I reckon someone got a bargain.

.

I recently sold a pair of 752 Freedoms on ebay for £100 plus £25 postage.

Although i have to say i much prefered them on the end of Sansui amplification rather than the Marantz PM66SE KI I initially had...

As mentioned, the 752 or 753 would be good choices, but I'd be wary of partnering with Marantz - unless your PM7000 has a good dose of low end welly. The 752 works well with the Sansui, but I found the PM6010KI which I had had all the detail, midrange and treble, but not enough at the bottom end to make them really do their best. In the end, although all the music's there, it's a touch sterile for my liking. Price-wise, £170 & £20 P&P is a tad on the steep side. For all that though, they're still great speakers and the pick of the used bunch for me combining performance and neat(ish) styling.

Apart from Mission, you could try and seek out a pair of KEF Q35.2 (excellent by all accounts and from the same era as the Missions), the aforesaid Peter Comeau designed HB1s (though they're standmounts).

EDIT: Given you have the CD6002, I'd be inclined to also suggest if you DO happen to chance on a pair of Missions, you give them a good listen if you can beforehand. If not, I'd point you away from the original 752 and onto the Freedom. Much as I like the originals I have, the combination of the brighter and more detailed Marantz electronics with the metal mesh dome tweeter may be a problem - the Sansui I use is the balancing factor, but I have no idea what the PM7000 might be like in your set-up.

thanks folks, the rs

, i know what to look out for now, im not too concerned about the synergy with my marantz, getting alot of speaker for little money is my main aim, i can always chop and change amps after to suit if needs be, all part of the fun
emotion-1.gif
. and being floorstanders they should do fine for home cinema, which is important to me..

finding a seller willing to post to ireland may be my main problem, there are a few irish sites i can check though, i may source some there

No worries mate, enjoy - you might be alright with the originals then - I'd certainly go for a pair and the PM7000 sounds like it will have more than enough with 95w no tap. The Sansui amp's rated at 85 (conservative, the engineer who looked at it recently reckoned 100) and it does the job handsomely. Just comes back to that old "synergy" thing again.

You'll be fine for movies too - they do deep bass with a nice rumble that won't leave you wanting for too much I doubt. Andrew's call on the 753 is worth bearing in mind too.

i'd just like to concur about the 753's. I have a pair (although not being used until i have a bigger room for them) and can say they are lovely sounding speakers. One thing i did do with them was remove the grille in front of the tweeter as sometimes it would touch the metal dome and create an unpleasant tiszing type noise. once removed though it was fine.

Treble is sweet, midrange is clear and dynamic, and bass is hefty and tuneful.

I've been tempted by the 753s but never gone for it in the past. Lovely speakers though. Only slight downside to them now is that Mission no longer stock spare drivers for them, which would be an issue for me if I went for a pair only for one of the twins to damage one by accident. Mind you, that'd leave seven others; if they do that to the 752s I'll only have the one!

just spotted a pair of mission 760i speakers going for e60..any good?

Why Missions? If you like MAs and want something cheaper why not look at RS6s? My ones cost me £300 and they are virtually unmarked.

sorry pp ive led people astray here, this is an old thread, my rx6's are staying..

its just that i recall the 7 series missions often being touted and the pair ive spotted are so cheap if they're any good id buy them, maybe i could stick em in the bedroom ..

Oh dear, given how much you like the presentation of the RXs, and if you plump for Missions, you may have regrets.

NB: I've nothing against Missions, but are somewhat different to MAs - tears in your soup and all that malarky.

The 75 series is pretty special mate, the 760i was a precursor in the 80s I think. Your job's done I think. FWIW, the only tears you'd have with a pair of 75 series speakers would be ones of joy.

The important thing is enjoying what you have!

I agree. I have had the whole 75 range in our house at one point between me and my mate and they are great speakers, but the sound from the MAs is quite different.
