Most of them have them, but none of them, I think actually use them in service.

I suspect they're for factory set-up or tuning or something, but if anyone knows differently, please enlighten.

Used for controlling the equipment in custom installations, now use IP communication.

professional home cinema installers to help setup the system via a pc and also to connect to advanced remote control systems like creston etc.

in the hands of any non professionals, messing around with these settings could make your system unuseable.
