Hi

I have seen loads of reviews on 40'' and 46'' Tvs, mainly looking at Samsung, Sony and Panasonic and seeing the words, its one of the best set weve seen, but what was the best of the best.

i know you have probably been asked this a thousand times.

Thanks

When I was demoing TV's recently, it was between the Samsung LED LCD models (I was going to for 9 series but demo'd the 7 series) and Panny plasma. In the end, I preferred the plasma so went with the PZ81 as at the time John Lewis were selling it for the same price as I could get the PZ80 so I effectively got freesat for nothing. Although the Sony screens looked nice and had a cracking picture, I had my doubts due to the quality control issues with their latest sets. I'm assured that the ones sold in JL are on the whole trouble free (read the W4500 thread for clarification on this) and a work mate of mine has just bought the latest 200hz set and says it was the best set he had seen when he was demoing. In the end, visit the stores and ask the assistant for a few minutes with the remote to have a play with the settings etc. Regardless of what set you choose, I would try and get a 5 year warranty.

Best of the best is the Pioneer range, except they only do a 50'' Plasma.

My friends Samsung, which is last years model is awful, the image looks processed and seems people in the foreground seem to glide.

Sony's seem to give a chocolate box look ( in shops) I'm sure this can been toned down, but I think the SD performance is poor and this lets it down. The HD stuff on disc is impressive but I felt the details in the blacks are lost.

Panasonics give a nice natural image and pound for pound are good. I would buy a 50'' personally, I'd say that because thats what I have.

I think all sets at the mo. which are 1080p DO NOT work well with SD freeview broacasts. Athough I recommend Panny, their 1080p sets do not do SD as well as the 760 sets. I spent hours trying to get the PZ to look better, sorry as good, than the PX on SD and I still didn't.
