Make that 2 waiting! I understand you guys have a lot of kit coming into your offices for review but a flagship product such as this should be bumped up the list. :bounce:

Is it true that there isn't the option of an RF remote with this? That would be a deal breaker for me.

I've queried why the LX87 hasn't been reviewed yet and What Hifi said they will once Pioneer send them one!

Yup, that's how it works, I don't know why some people find it so difficult to understand, do they really think WHF have got the budget to go and purchase everything that people want reviewed?

The trouble with that is you only get reviews on products that companies are prepared to send and the review sample could have been fiddled with to perform better. Which buy all their test products last time I looked.

Well they clearly have a much bigger budget to be able to do so.

I'm interested in a review on this one too.

In particular, how much of a step up the '87 is over the '57 (which WHF have recently reviewed, so a relatively meaningful comparison ought to be possible if they pair it with the same speakers) & the '77. Essentially, is each step up worth the premium asked? Also, how does it compare to comparably-priced receivers from Arcam or Anthem?

I'm also interested to see how Spotify Connect actually works in practice. We've seen the news releases, but no hands-on experience with it yet.

And finally, it would be really helpful when reviewing AV receivers generally, to know which speakers they were demo'd with and how successful (or not) the match was. Did they complement one another or exacerbate any weaknesses?

Apart from TVs, Which never seems to review any hifi/cinema gear over about £200. No point looking unless you're after a budget player etc.

Concerning tweeking/modifying review samples to make them sound better, from what I've read the manufacturers don't even run in their speakers before sending out for review, or check for faults. The Vienna Acoustics beethoven baby Grands that were first reviewed in the 1 make feature had dodgy tweeters if I recall.

I was not suggesting that Which was a suitable place to look for HiFi reviews, merely that their method for obtaining test items is superior. As it happens, their general way of marking items regardless of cost is also better. For example, you can see that the £1000 washing machine is best, but the the £500 one is almost as good - I think that is often true of HiFi, but the What HiFi reviews give you no way to tell.

For those of you keen to see a review of the LX87, our esteemed Reviews Ed Andy Madden is on holiday this week. I'll find out next week when/if we're expecting it in.

Hi Andy,

While your doing that could you ask him about the Sony DA5800ES too please. Please see your comments on this article back in February please.

http://www.whathifi.com/news/bristol-show-2013-sony-str-da5800es-av-receiver-to-sell-for-%C2%A32250

Of course, what would be really nice would be a Premium end group test of all these amps including the Arcams et all - something you guys have not done for a while now.

Many thanks.
