Hi there i have decided for the first time to move away from the standard IPod ear phones and get some proper ones. I really have no idea on makes or anything so can anyone reccomend the best ones of a price upto £50

Thanks in advance

Well there's the Shure SE110 around your limit which I have heard briefly though I think the Sennheiser CX500 have far greater value, they have a little too much low end but at a third of the price.

Yeh, I meant the 300s. 500s have the volume control then. 300s it is.

andytucker:
what about these models:-

grado igrado

AKG K 430

they were right first time

Well I've always gone against the igrado because of their outwardly appearance. I've heard the lower end AKG aren't as good as the Grado equivalent, I think my CX300 recommendation stands.

So you don't want an-in-ear scenario yet you want phones for at home and away at less than £50. I'd say spend £20 more and get the Grado sr60. A spectacular headphone for the price, not too large, thoroughly recommended - just watch the cables, brittle as a pound.

By the way will i notice a massive difference when listening to my ipod over the standard ipod earphones?

The standard ipod earphones are beyond grade. They are poor beyond belief. Buy some Sennheisers for £20 and you'll be forever wondering why all those losers are wandering round listening to 1950's mono.

Guys,

Under £ 50 , it has to be the Sennheiser CX 300. They are best fit and give the best overall sound and value for money.

As a side issue, if you want, what I believe are the best for MP3 audiophiles, then try the Klipsch Custom 3 - Awesome !!

Ok looking around net now for some sennheiser and have noticed there are the PX100 and PX200 and not alot of price difference between the two. Anyone know which ones are better?

Both are very similar but the PX200 are a closed design which prevents the sound leaking out and annoying others. The PX100 are Open design and so sound leaks out. (This does not effect the performance though which is very good.)

I had the PX 200s an the plastic side arm snapped when I put them on one day - so they went in the bin.

Just ordered myself some CX 95s new for 50 quid!!ÿ

You can choose either shure, sennheiser or skullcandy. All these three branded headphones may be available about £50.

I have the Goldring DR100. They were £40 when I bought them a couple of years back. Probably cheaper now. They have a great sound and are very comfortable (I use mine for a couple hours at a time on my Roland v-drums TD-6k, with no discomfort at all)

Sure, you'll notice a difference, but it's whether you like the
difference. I've scratched my head for ages trying to work out why
people buy good headphones/earphones, then end up going back the the
rubbish standard pair that they were using before. The answer i think
is: moving up with the same manufacturer is different to moving over to
a different manufacturer. E.g. i don;t see many people complaining
about going from a pair of PX100's to a pair of HD555's, but moving
from standard ipod ear buds to a pair of Shure's for example, or a pair
of Sony's to a pair of Grado's, is where the complaints start.

Out
of my sub 70 headphone/earphones collection, there are good and bad
examples with all headphones. for £50, protable use, i would go for the
iGrado's. if you can stretch to a little more and buy the Alessandro MS-1, not the Grado SR60.. which are a fine choice. However, the Alessandro MS-1's come between the SR80 and SR125 and retail for less than the SR60's. it doesn't come much better than that.

If you can get your hands on a pair of Ultrasone HFI-15G headphones, then buy them! I absolutely love mine, and they're light comfy and they sound very open and detailed, even with the S-logic stuff.

Consider also the Goldring DR150 headphones, however there is a slight issue. Bar the fact that the DR100 got an award from 'WHF' The detail is good, however the sound is shrill beyond belief. with some songs, i can bear them for only a few seconds, before i'm ripping them off my head. Hoever, there is a solution. Fortunately the geniuses at Goldring have made cable modding a cinch, becasue they use a good old fashion 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable. easy to change.

I tried the Goldring SR150 briefly, and they much more.... bearable than my DR50 or DR100's.

Alessandro MS-1 (home use)

Ultrasone HFI-15G (home and portable)

Goldring DR150, and change that cable!
