What CMS does the site use?

The forums, blogs and commenting system are Community Server, the rest is a custom CMS and a custom login system. All built in a .net environment.

It was a case of use what exists at £x or go for total "newness" at £x ++, the choice was fairly simple.

There are constant "discussions" on how we should have done it / will do it but the site is successful in many ways. (Considering 2 years ago this was all fields etc etc.)

Why do you ask?

I'm looking into search engine optimisation on dynamically-generated content, and the entries on these forums end up top of google's list in, like, seconds. I'm presuming that's the CMS's doing?

The forums have nothing to do with the CMS, it's all Community Server. Good, constantly changing content that is well marked up will always get to the top of the pile.
