What Amplifier

My Arcam Alpha 7R has just passed into Hi-Fi heaven, so I need a good budget replacement. Being a OAP money is tight.

I have a Linn Axis Turntable with Akito tonearm fitted with a Goldring G1042 cartridge.

Speakers are Tannoy Mercury F1 Custom.

Maybe not the best combination but gave me the sound I like.

So, the question is can anyone point me in the right direction for a replacement amp that will give me similar sound.

If you were happy with the Alpha 7 just get it repaired, nothing serious normally goes wrong with them and they are still a great amplifier.

You could have a look at some Arcam 9s they are meant to better than the 7 but are not that cheap at around £150. Other newer amps would be a Rega Brio R, they are about £400 ex. demo, decent phono stage. You could probably find Arcam 18s for about £300.

Only has 3 days left to run. Says it has no remote, but hopefully you still have your old one.
