hi members,

i am thinking of buying bookshelf speakers for my marantz 6004.. i already listened it with kef q300 and liked a lot of its way of sound.. just interesting to buy one more pair after reading a reviews of wharfedale 121 from what hifi and other magazines in india..

there is no demo available in our area.. so only opinions..

do i expect good sound quality from wharfedale 121 like q 300 in moderate volumes? my room size is 10*16 ft..

what are all i missed in whafedale than kef q300?

thanks

The Wharfedales are good but some way off the KEFs in my opinion, and the finish on Diamonds leaves a lit to be desired. The only thing I would say is the Q300 need quite a bit of space to work their best. Depending on how close you sit to your speakers you might find the Q100s better.

I would recommend wharedale 155 for that richness in bass and more confident sound, The Whathifi had a pair that finish was bad but mine where all good. Still there is some air noises from the bassports on occasions but with loudness on you can crack the amplifer up in movies quite a bit but when I played the movie transformers "end battles" the protection mode set in a few times for me when it sounded as best and most involving 😉 but pm6004 isnt meant to be a muscular amplifer.

You may have made your choice now as i've only just stumbled across this thread while looking for something else. As other have said, its unfair to compare these two as the KEF's are twice as much as the Wharfedales and in a different class. Saying that, I demoed the Q300 little brother the Q100's at home against the 121's and the 121's didn't fare too badly in comparison. The was more bass and detail with the Kef's, but also something a slight off with the treble (metal tweeter?) The Wharfdales also worked ok without stands and I had placement issues with the Kefs. If they had been closer in price I might have been tempted to keep the Kefs, but was happy to take them back and stick with the Wharefdales. If you want to go up slight from the 121's, look at the 122's.
