Had my 121s for a while now and just got around to changing the brass links for some speaker cable. While I had the speakers down from their wall brackets I thought I would go for a change of look and remove the speaker grills. They are supposedly removable but I can't get them off. Anyone else done this successfully without damaging the cabinet?

From the looks of things, the 121 speakers have seperate bass woofer and tweeter grills that look like the normal plug type. Have you tried using your finger nails and prising/levering the grills off? What about a flat edged tool.

I must admit I don't like the grill design for the 100 series. I wish Wharfedale had just made a one piece grill to cover the front (both drivers in one). A few sites also mention that the grill affects sound quality for the tweeter especially.

There is some evidence to suggest they have: https://www.google.com/search?q=Wharfedale+121&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=bvz_U7j1EsqeyASTk4C4CA&ved=0CDgQsAQ&biw=1008&bih=667
