Hi, I have ordered a pair of Wharfedale's 10.1 as my old speakers needed replacing.... I have an old system with a Kenwood KA3020 and a Marantz cd - 42 player!

Will I need to update my amp too or will my Kenwood do for now??

Any advise would be good as I really am not that knowledgeable and haven't updated for years!!

Thanks

Hello

No the Kenwood should do for now but I feel that if you havent already; invest some money into decent speaker stands (i.e. Atacama Nexus 6i's or the SoundStyle Z2's at a minimum) as well as a better interconnect (i.e. Chord Crimson) and good speaker cable (i.e. Chord Carnival Silverscreen or QED Silver Annivaersary) for now.

The Wharfedales are brilliant speakers so the above will give them the best to really sing.

I feel if you do want to change the amp; get yourself to a good hifi reseller and demo the Wharfedales with various amps. The likes of the Rotel RA-04, NAD C326BEE and the Audiolab 8000 would do very well and would definitly be a mark up in quality.

No have no yet purchased speaker stands but am looking into purchasing them as my old one's were placed on shelves against the wall!!!

Thanks for the speaker cables, I will look at those! I am planning eventually when I have the cash to purchase a new amp.... its time I feel to update!!!!

Thanks very much!!

I'll be interested to know how you get on as I also have 15 year old JPW Richer Sounds specials and am thinking about upgrading. I still think they sound great though and I'm concerned that something like the 10.1 is not a significant improvement.

Matthew

I have received my wharfedales but haven't yet had much time with them but at first impact the sound for me has definitely improved!! It would be best though if you can to go into a hi-fi retailer and listen to them.

Am now going to invest in speaker stands as they are on shelves against the wall!!
