Just built a low-cost network streamer (plus whatever else you want to do with it), all in £30 (the case was a fiver) - a Raspberry Pi, with Raspbsm running XMBC. I now have it connected via USB to my DAC, and I cannot tell the difference between it or my Sonos Connect / Mac / Direct-Synology. Nice interface controlled via iPad / Browser with album artwork, and the size of a pack of cards. I now have it running without keyboard/screen/mouse plugged in, or headless as one might say, and listening to 24-bit/192khz "out-of-the-box"....

I really can't think why I didn't do this before, and it only took an hour to set up!

Now to make it high cost and buy a touchscreen HDMI monitor.....

Yamyam well done that Man. I've been playing around with the Raspberry Pi for a few weeks now. Amazed it can do so much, have tried Volumio, Rune Audio and settled on Pi Musicbox. Tried both OpenElec and Raspbmc boots of XBMC but, and here's the but, couldn't get them to stop 'popping' and 'crackling' through the USB DAC I am using! Is yours 'crackle' free from the word go? Cheers
