Hello folks,

i treated myself to a first home cinema system in february, tannoy speakers and an Onkyo 606.

bout 10 weeks ago my onkyo 606 i noticed my hdmi output was being intermittent i would have to flick from source 1 and 2 4-5 times to get an image on screen. I have since returned it to the store and they sent it back to onkyo 6-7 weeks ago.

I have since been told my hdmi board is faulty and there backordered till mid decmeber which is great i have since been told 2 weeks ago that onkyo will either replace the part with another unit thats developed a different fault or credit me with a brand new unit possibly a onkyo 607 thats great but its been 2 weeks and still no news 🙁

A friend has mentioned that there is normally a set period of time that if you have been without a unit/item that a replacment should be given no questions asked is that right anybody else had similar problem please help.

Thanks Adam

I would have thought that if you've only had the product seven months, you've been without the use of it for a quarter of that time and it can't be repaired for several months, you should demand an immediate replacement or a refund from the retailer from whom you bought it. Your contract is with them, not the manufacturer.

Do so in writing, telling the retailer you are rejecting the product as being unfit for the purpose for which it was bought, and keep a copy,

Also, if you bought the product on a credit card you should have a word with the card provider, as it may be able to bring some pressure to bear if the retailer is being a bit slow.

does onkyo have the worst reliability i have a onkyo 905 that a bought in december by the summer it had stopped upscaling anything up to hdmi. it had to be sent to genserve for repair i think it was to replace the hdmi board & other parts, now a few months later i've noticed when i turn the amp on there is a green tint in the picture only happening a couple of times a week right now but going to see what happens.
it seems most of the heat from this amp comes from the hdmi board area do all onkyo amps get hot around this area because they seem to be known for running very hot & very poor reliability mine seems to fit this bill. i think they should of fitted a fan over this area because the heat must have a lot to do with the poor reliability

Had an 875 for well over two years, and never had a single problem with it. It's only been back to Genserve once, and that was for modifications required for a firmware upgrade.

And the heat thing? Mine runs warm, but not hot - it's well ventilated above, to the rear, and to the sides.

my 875 went bang in a cloud of smoke after about 6 weeks and onkyo replaced with 876 and had no issues touch wood since

good service from both dealer and onkyo

see i would say mine runs more than warm over the hdmi board area, it sits on top of an open hifi rack. i would always put my hand over where the transformer is because i thought this would be the hottest area. then one day i put my hand over the back area where the hdmi board is & it was really hot. it seems there is no consistency in there build quality
