I've read numerous threads/suggestions of how to apparently flatten warped records. - From putting them on the bottom of a stack to oven heating in a 'press' ... .

Would you put a valuable record in the oven??

I think it is almost impossible to flatten a warped record completely in a controlled way. However, I found a way that partially works with the most severe warps without destroying the subject.

If you apply warm (not hot) water to a record (or immerse it) it will warp/bend temporarely and then immediately return to its former shape. If you are quick enough and checked beforehand where the warp is you can apply hand/finger pressure and correct it.

Safer than an oven.

I wouldn't risk playing a warped record.

I once lent a ELO album to a friend, anyway, after about a month asked if he had finished with it. He revealed he put it in the attic, but he laid it flat instead of on its side and other boxes had fallen on top. Got the thing back home and it was pretty sorry state. I tried everything including using a iron (the album was well covered) but it was beyond playing.

Nah, I would ditch them.

Wow, so all yu guys only own completely flat records?!

I have old jazz, classical and even a couple of NOS records that are warped. Not to the extend that they upset the tonearm/cartridge but with slight warps in it nevertheless.

Kind of makes me wonder what constitutes a 'warp'.

They all play perfectly fine, it is probably more an aesthetic issue.

Furutech DF-2 yours for around 1700 spons. Methinks you are clever enough to google it without a tedious link.

Or send the really bad ones back and tell the seller to shove it where the sun dosnt shine.

For mild warps ,buy a ruddy clamp you tight beggar ;).

Got a record clamp but it doesn't do to much for warps, very good though to dampen the record when used without tightening ... . Better would be one of those rings which weigh the record down at the outside but they cost a fortune.
