Looks like a good job, I want to do this in my new house (in the process of moving!). Have you channelled out a breeze block wall there? How did you do it, and did you have the wall replastered, or are you a dab hand with filler and sandpaper?
First I used a piece of 3mm MDF cut to exactly the same size as the TV to determine the best position. I used a laser level on a tripod so that the centre of the TV would be at eye level.
Yes the wall is made of Thermolite. Its soft so easy to chase out channels but its rubbish for fixing into. I originally tried to use some Fischer Shield Anchors but they wouldn't hold. So I used Fischer Hybrid Mortar Resin V which contains 20% cement and some M10 resin studs:
If you're mounting into Thermolite I would strongly recommend using resin. The wall mount is a Sanus low profile which I chose because it sits flusher to the wall than most but still allows enough room for the cables etc. In terms of the electrical connections - I added a Switched Fused Connection Unit and took a spur from the mains socket to the 20A outlet plate behind the TV. I cut the plug off the power lead for the TV and wired it directly into the outlet plate. The channels were plastered over and then the wall repainted.
Whats the size of the TV you're planning on wall mounting?

Hi DV - cheers for the info. I am likely going to mount at least one 32". Ive just bought a new house, its an old victorian place so one room downstairs is destined to be my hifi room, then a new kitchen extension on the back will likely also have a TV. The reason I tell you this is the room where my hifi is going is in the old part of the house (and therefore likely black mortar so reluctant to chase out the walls). The kitchen should hopefully not be a problem though.
So did you have someone in to plaster over the gaps? Is it then just a case of sanding it before you paint?

Good use of the laser....got a Hilti one myself...smart job looks excellent.
Hi James & Jason,Sorry about the delay in replying - I didn't see the thread had new posts.
The only part I did was fixing the wall mount with resin. The electrician chased out and fitted the cables and sockets etc. Our plasterer who happens to be a friend of the electrican did the plastering. He also re-painted the wall as hes also a decorator. He only charged me £15 for the plastering.
Personally I'd recommend you get a plasterer to do the plastering.
