Can anyone recommend some speakers (floor-standing or stand-mounted) that are likely to fit into my system and would benefit from being situated within 1 metre of the corners of a fairly standard living room, please?

At the risk of getting into trouble, they would need to be ‘spouse-friendly' (nice to look at or ignore and not need to be driven hard to sound good). I would probably spend up to approx £400-500 max (the amp and cd-player cost approx £1k when purchased together c.1997) and I would consider recommendations for well-treated second-hand speakers of yester-year to watch out for.

I have a few accessories and tweaks to try out first, but have a sneaking suspicion my TDLs are just not suited to their new location in our living room and will have to go since there is no obvious scope for giving them the freedom they need: they've gone ‘boomy' and 'flabby' on me (a bit like a dog beginning to look like its owner).

I still have the Atacama SE24 stands I purchased last century, if they are needed, but am likewise open to upgrade suggestions in that department.

Thanks for any help.

Mission 773 E, Compact floor standers, excellent finish, very wife friendly. front firing ports, they dont need to be pulled right out into the room.

2 aeorogel bass drivers, soft dome tweeter, not harsh. Easy to drive and they image like the devil.

Cost today probably close to a grand for the same quality.

Boxed pair on e bay as we speak, mint, boxed silly money, you cant go wrong

Ps....i am not the seller, i have used them and recommend them highly.
