If it is from the speakers then it may well be normal as the volume may not reduce to zero. If it is emanating from the preamp circuitry it is what I used to hear from NAD integrated amps, where the signal created tiny resonance in the chassis or transformer.

However, I don't have direct experience of your models so cannot say if it is typical or not. But it is not unknown for tiny signal from high output sources like CD (up to 2 volts) to be audible at the speakers.

Hi ,

Bi amp ing or pre/power , the 272 has a variable input option the 370 a variable output on pre out 2 maybe you can try these

I would expect the fixed option to be the default when you have matching kit, with the variability to permit pairing with other makes with different sensitivity. Before you start, does the cd replay so loud that you only use a quarter turn or less of the volume? If so, there is too much gain and you might pad it down with the adjustment, but will be inserting another component in the signal path.

Turning the preset gain down is exactly the same thing as turning the volume control down. Gain presets are a very useful feature, they enable you to equalize the volume of all sources.

I just tried turning the volume down to zero on my UQ2 and if I stick my ear next to the speaker I can still faintly hear the sound.

I agree, Trevor, but that wasn't what the OP was wanting to achieve!

Some volume controls don't go down to zero. Does it bother you that yours doesn't?

Buying this one http://www.rothwellaudioproducts.co.uk/html/attenuators.html gives you a wider range before you reach the max spl, watt, meaning at zero the sound is minus 10 or 20 db (same price for 10 or 20db), another advantage is you don't get max power 9 o'clock on some amps so the sound isn't to low, loud or to loud

I think wires are getting crossed here! You surely need just one pair (if you need any at all) and they will either go between CDP and preamp, or between preamp and power amp?

IMO you're worrying over nothing. Assuming your pre-amp has an traditional analogue volume pot and not a digital one, all that's happening is the volume pot isn't attenuating the input by 100% even at its minimum position. It's nothing to worry about. One day you'll have fond memories about the days when you could still hear it and you worried about it.

Tried mine (-10db) on my Dali E 12 F subwoofer, now it's more easy to adjust voulume without it being to loud, 9 0'clock it was a bit to loud (edm).

Did you remember to order the right one (-10 db or -20 db)?

The 2nd output on the 370 will give you up to -12dB , you can dial in even more / less gain, guess another ±6dB on the power amp .

Not sure what these plugs will do for you when you can already cut the output by more.

Between the outputs and inputs of your amps I'm betting you have ±12dB to play with , you should be able to get silence at zero , no hiss and extend the range of the volume pot using both .

If it was me I'd play with these first

Indeed it has (didn't know that) http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/attachments/classifieds-sell-your-gear/6604d1227145733-fs-nad-c272-stereo-power-amp-c272_back.jpg don't no if OP have tried using the input level or if it's already at min.

He should be able to get his money back if it dosn't work for him
