Hello chaps,

Got Virgin V+ yesterday ( good install contrary to lots of posts ) and want to connect to my Yamaha V667 Receiver . What is the best way , via the HDMI to the Amp then TV , or HDMI direct to TV and use optical to the Amp ?

I also presume that a Harmony One will control basics on the Virgin box ?

Thanks,

I may be wrong (and being a Virgin Service Tech, you'd think I'd know!), but I don't think you need the optical cable. I believe the HDMI does the lot.

I use Hdmi to the amp, then amp Hdmi to the tv, on the V HD box it works fine. Cant see it being much different to the V+HD box.

If you dont & you go the optical route via the TV optical out, the programmes shown with DD sound probably would'nt pass through the TV back to the amp in anything but stereo.

I think the OP was suggesting using an optical cable between the V+ box and the amp - which is what I do, because my amp does not support HDMI. Either route works, I would go with the HDMI route - if it works, as this simplifies cabling and should reduce lipsync issues.

Sounds good to me - means I don't have to buy the optical cable. I still have speakers to get so am not using the amp at the moment .

Just waiting for Audio-T to get the Boston Acoustics in , but also noticed they have gone up to £409 on their website - not paying that so we will see .

Thanks.

I actually bought the Yamaha at Richer and it is a bit like a supermarket in there and I then heard that Audio-T take a bit more time with you - its also nearer to me

Well got the Bostons and all going fine , even the sub was picked up by the set-up mike.

Only 1 problem I opted to get the optical cable, a QED one and it fits the Yamaha fine but it doesn't seem to want to stay in the V+ box output hole. It goes in but is very loose. Do you think this is a fault with the V+ box or am I doing smething wrong ? I presume the QED label goes upwards ie the little domed part of the connector .

Still getting sound but I presume only stereo and not 5.1 as it says on the V+ booklet .

Thanks.
