Virgin planning a 3D TV service?

A colleague received a flyer from Virgin Media through the post this morning. Interesting thing is, the picture of the V+ box on the flyer had a 3D logo on it.

Quick call to Virgin HQ elicited the response that "it's just to flag up that the boxes are 3D compatible".

Does that mean a Virgin 3D TV service is on the cards? "We'll have news of 3D plans soon," came the reply.

Given that Sky and Virgin now seem to be best mates, what chance Virgin customers getting access to Sky's forthcoming 3D TV channel?

Andy, what do you mean by best mates?

Like best mates you can now have HD sky movies back?

If so will go back to virgin as have had nothing but problems with my Sky HD box, 10th box and still problems after 14 months.

Cheers

So Sky will own virgin? or just the TV.

I prefer the virgin box as it has the dual tuner.

No, Sky won't own Virgin Media, just the TV channels they've bought from Virgin. And I think you mean the Virgin V+ box has triple tuners (Sky has two).

Well did a price compair and I can get 50mb broadband with xl pack for 73.00 same as what I am paying sky.

But I think virign have traffic shaping, so you download too much you get your broadband capped for the rest of the night.

Thanks for the info

No capping/throttling at all on the XXL (50Mb) service. Clicky

As I understand it, the V-Box has the ability to record two progs simutaneously and watch a 3rd, so that's still an extra tuner over the Sky box.

3D from Virgin? A bit ambitious in my opinion. From my experience they can't even provide you with the correct modem, when they finally do they can only get you a 20MB connection that is actually as fast as dial up. Their sales guys (that work on commision) also seem to volunteer you to expensive package upgrades which automatically extend your contract a further 12 months. On top of that they seem to pull in random untrained srangers off the street to man their 'customer helplines' Good luck with 3D if you can't manage the basics Virgin.

Hope I haven't put anyone off.

Look who I just got a response from, WOW !!

Simon, The acquisition of Virgin Media Television by Sky is subject to regulatory clearance - albeit neither side expects this to be a problem. Once this happens we will be able to talk about Sky Sports and Movies in HD joining our service. Our hope is this will be before done by the end of July. Kind regards, Gareth Gareth Mead | Head of Media Relations (Corporate)
