Hello

After many years of disuse, I tested my parents’ Beocentre 7007 recently (during house clearance after my father’s death) – purchased in the 1980s

Still works OK – except speaker cone surrounds (Beovox CX 100) are perished

I am happy to replace these with 3rd party speakers but the cables have bespoke plugs at each end

Is it possible to use 3rd party speakers with this unit, and if so what converter / replacement cable would we need?

I don’t really want to spend £100s on replacement CX100s (or rennovate them) – we have a spare pair of decent bookshelf speakers to replace them (space is limted in their future home)

Also it has original MMC5 cartridge/stylus, so this will need replacing at some point – any advice on this please?

Thanks

Speakers shouldn't be a problem, I think they just use a pair of 2 pin DIN speaker plugs, found on eBay and amazon.

The cartridge may not be so simple. I believe they use their own cart's that aren't particularly cheap to replace. I'm sure there will be someone on hear who knows more than you and I who can steer you in the best direction.

There’s a booming business in restoring CX100 and the smaller CX50. One of my Hifi pals swears by his 100s in a second system, and they were even reviewed in the Vintage column in Hifi News magazine in the last year or 18 months.

Refurbished ones as a example here…https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/32632566...Wh2ruRIThq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

However, you can connect any speakers to the B&O Beocentre as long as you use the 2-pin DIN plug mentioned above, the ones that looks a bit like a dash and a dot.

Re cartridges, it could be pricy, but these are available.

There’s a UK seller on eBay who refurbishes cartridges from £339!
