If you were in the market for a marantz amp and could get a pm7005 or a pm6006 for roughly the same budget, which would you go for, thanks

You know my feelings on new Marantz amps. I would go for something second hand. Even vintage Marantz.

If that's not the case PM7005 has a USB input that is useful to have. So in that basis and that I'm a sucker for a bargain PM7005 🙂

i would go for the marantz PM8005 as you could still find one new and its a much better amp for the money .

i think your find one new in the uk for about £600 or less thats were i would spend my money not PM6006/7005

I'm spending less than half that and require built in DAC so no 8005 for me I'm afraid

Well I ended up getting an open box PM6006 from superfi for 240 pounds. I had basketed a PM7005 on amazon last night but didn't pay, emailed the seller and it vanished off-site so didn't go that way.

I was all set to go acitve speakers route but to set up but the way I have my setup now was requiring a few more cables and connections etc, coupled with the fact that the actives I looked at had no grills and my little boy (1yr and a half)loves pushing on woofers etc. It made more sense at the moment to stick with a passive set up. I have sold my monitor audio a100, but to be honest I love the marantz / q aoustic sound and was only changing because all the reading got the better of me, not particularly because my own system lacked anything, so now I'll have a pm6006 with q acoustics in one room and a pm6005 with monitor audio bronze 2s in my second room

You were right, my signature will change

It's what you know and like. Trust me it's the best way to go. I've managed to get myself into trouble by fiddling out of curiosity and now need to start a search for new amp or do something to my source. Either way completely not where I wanted to be but not much I can do now, than to deal with it.

At least you'll get to try out a few new things. You may even get something better than your original setup.

I'm pretty much finished buying now for a good while

That's where I'd rather be. But hey I've got 2 amps for one setup, it could be worse right? Like, no amps at all 🙂 I think I'm going to use one to listen to jazz/folk/country and use the other for rock/metal for the time being. Unless I managed to get a warmer source to just use I22. Next few weeks will be interesting for sure.

ok did not realize you ware after a marantz with a onboard dac

you could of got the marantz PM6005 even cheaper as it's the older model as there not much in it between PM6005 / PM6006 .

But the reason I said the marantz PM8005 it would of been worthy upgrade and if you wanted to buy a standalone dac that would do all formats of music files where the dac in the marantz PM6006 I would of thought would be limited in what formats it could playback

There are numerous items that pop up on Amazon now that are advertised as new and are substantially cheaper than anyone else. But they alway say you have to email them before purchase. I almost fell victim to one for some speakers but emailed Amazon first and the item was taken down. You make have had a lucky escape there if that was the case with the PM7005 at the same price as a 6006.

Congrats with your purchases. I hope you enjoy them.

Dilemmas like that can thin out you wallet fast though.

On a selfish note I'll finally have my monitor audio speakers in about 2 hrs
You can't go far wrong with any Marantz. On the various x00y model amplifiers there are significant differences in facilities, and buyers often think the 6005/6 has an input for a PC/Mac which it doesn't. In fact, that was about the only complaint in any review.

Hope you enjoy!

Enjoy the new toy, sounds like you bagged a deal. Also, just picking up on something you said further up the thread, don't ever go down the active route on the grounds that you've heard it reduces wires. That's a total fallacy. For a start there's a power cable to each speaker, and that's before you even think about plugging any sources into them.

Ya, the powered route was interesting but with young kids etc it might be someting worth looking at in a few years
