Strange that it looks like Marantz used an EI transformer in the pm7005 but toroidal in the 6005 and 8005. Can anyone explain that?

If that's not the case PM7005 has a USB input that is useful to have. So in that basis and that I'm a sucker for a bargain PM7005 🙂

Well I ended up getting an open box PM6006 from superfi for 240 pounds. I had basketed a PM7005 on amazon last night but didn't pay, emailed the seller and it vanished off-site so didn't go that way.
You can't go far wrong with any Marantz. On the various x00y model amplifiers there are significant differences in facilities, and buyers often think the 6005/6 has an input for a PC/Mac which it doesn't. In fact, that was about the only complaint in any review.muljao said:Dilemmas like that can thin out you wallet fast though.

There are numerous items that pop up on Amazon now that are advertised as new and are substantially cheaper than anyone else. But they alway say you have to email them before purchase. I almost fell victim to one for some speakers but emailed Amazon first and the item was taken down. You make have had a lucky escape there if that was the case with the PM7005 at the same price as a 6006.
Congrats with your purchases. I hope you enjoy them.

Also, just picking up on something you said further up the thread, don't ever go down the active route on the grounds that you've heard it reduces wires. That's a total fallacy. For a start there's a power cable to each speaker, and that's before you even think about plugging any sources into them.
