VERY HOT AMP

I've recently bought the Sugden A21L amp and when doing so I was advised by the dealer that it does get pretty warm.

However, it actually gets very hot to the touch, so much so you can't leave your finger on there for more than a few seconds. It was explained that's the way A class amps operate in order to work to optimum power.

Does any one know if this is normal?

I used to run a Musical Fidelity amp you could fry an egg on. Well, almost.

A free-range, organic one will give the bass more integgrity.

That's Class A for you. I run a pair of Class A Valve monoblock amps, they get so hot you can't leave your hand on them for any longer than few seconds. Pretty normal, just enjoy the lovely sound they produce.

Thanks guys for putting my mind at rest. Like you say I'll just enjoy.

Still deciding which speakers will go best with this set up though. Listened to a few and I my favourite at the mo is the Spendor A5, only problem is I've not long bought speaker stands and they weren't particularly cheap!

What about the new totems? tested in the mag! or maybe some Dali's

Chebby, chebby, chebby. You've let me down, you've let the forum down, but most of all you've let yourself down.

Yes, where are the pun moderators when you need them?

No, no that's wrong, JD, the eggs are a let-down. Once they come off the heat they deflate. That's a natural, chemical reaction

I was listening to that Black Uhuru reggae classic... 'Youth of Egglington' (sic) from their 1981 albumen 'Red' whilst re-reading the eggsistentialist masterpiece 'Boiling and Time' by Martin Friedegger.

I was inspired.

Sorry.

Hi Macspur

It is normal. My demo ATC SIA2-150MK2 also runs very hot. That's class A biasing for you. Lovely.

Thanks

My amp runs pretty hot too (class xd), certainly a lot hotter than any of my previous amps. The heat it kicks out, along with the heat from the TV makes my living room quite a hot place, especially over the last few days.
