Hi Guys,

Have been trying to use the thx optimiser tools on my blu-ray version of Terminator 2. the only problem i seem to have is that i cannot get the correct level of brightness during the brightness test. using the instructions the brightness is just too low. I own a Sony EX603 32" tv. I have turned off all of the sony picture enhancements such as live colour.

Any help or tips appreciated.

I've had a lot of trouble in exactly the same way. I don't know if it's a Sony thing but it just trial and error with the brightness. After you've run through the optimiser, start at 50% and adjust it from there. Just keep trying familiar clips with different lighting to make sure you don't go to far one way or the other.

To be honest, without using the glasses, I don't think the THX calibration tool on movies is that useful.

I tried it on my system and wasn't satisfied so I experimented with my own settings. It was a hit and miss affair for a working week i.e. after hours - but eventually got it right to my satisfaction.

One setting that sealed for me was my LCD's backlight setting - and I've gleaned many calibration tools ignore backlighting completely - I have my Samsung relatively high for the Movie setting - at 8/10.
