Had the Onkyo 606 and Q Acoustics 1010i package for 6 months now.

Set it all up manually, thinking 'I know it all!!!'

Just decided tonight to see if using the mic set up would make much difference before I order some Q Acoustics 1030i to replace the front 1010i (wasn't happy was cd stereo playback), and I'm really glad I did!!!!!

It has made such a difference, that I'm not sure I will purchase the 1030i floor standers now.

Both freeview and 'Revenge of the Sith' on dvd sounded UNBELIEVABLE.

Then I put on 'Batman Begins' on blu ray----- OMG unbelievable again (poor neighbours)

For anyone out there who decide not to use the mic to set up an AV amp-beware YOU ARE NOT HEARING IT AT IT'S BEST!!!!

I'm blown away!!!

I agree i use on my onk although i will say it is very room dependant! If your room is HI FI friendly it wont make much difference if your room is a sonic nightmare eg loads of hard sound reflecting surfaces it makes a huge differnce

Hi PP1. Yeah using the Audyssey would really make a big difference. However, after performing the auto calibration, I've applied a little more tweaking on my system by adding more db on the center and on the front left and right channels. IMO, the Audyssey is just a guideline to first time set-up. Try experimenting, if you're not happy with the result you can do the auto calibration again. Cheers.

Hi liujol,

Thanks for your advice. I actually did tweak it a bit after the second go at calibrating.

The front left and right speakers were not the same level or distance on first go, so did a second set up, where the distances were correct and the level only had to be adjusted by one db to be equal.

I also adjusted all levels because they came out -12db's and -8dbs, so I added 5 at all values so they were still the same difference without losing all that potential volume power from the amp.

I finally tweaked the centre up a couple and played around with the rear of the sub to turn down the bass (way too much bass, but I think I'm right in saying it can't set the sub).

Does that sound all ok?
