Using Sony NW-A1000 mp3 player with iTunes

Would I be right in assuming that I can only use this mp3 player with Sony's Connect/Sonic Stage software? Although all of the tracks on the machine are mp3 (as opposed to Sony's Atrac) iTunes doesn't register the unit, and Windows Media Player sees the unit, says it's synchronising with it, but actually doesn't.

All of the music I have ripped to iTunes is in mp3 format.

Yes, absolutely correct. All you can do is manually drag and drop music from your iTunes Music folder into the correct folder on the player, using the Windows finder.

If you have SonicStage you can import files from your iTunes library and then transfer them to your Walkman. Go to 'File>Import>Music File' in SonicStage - you can then browse your iTunes library and import them into your SS library. If you do not currently have SS on you PC download from Sony Support.
