Using integrated amp with headphones only

Apologies if this appears twice(edit thrice), I wrote this out and clicked save but the thread never appeared in the forum (twice)...

Due to space limitation in my flat I need to swap my speakers over from being connected to my av receiver to my hifi. The prospect of clambering behind the av unit and unplugging the speaker cables whilst doing a handstand every time I want to listen to my hifi has lost its appeal and I reserve listening to music when I know I wont be disturbed for a good few hours.

For christmas I am lucky enough to be getting my first decent ish pair of headphones. My question is, is it safe to use my integrated amplifier to drive the headphones alone without any load across the speaker terminals? (i.e. no speakers connected)

Shouldn't be a problem.

Our Yamaha stereo receiver doesn't blow up when I switch speakers A and B off and plug in earphones.

If your amp has a headphone output then yes, it will be fine to use it without the speakers connected.
