Question USB C Flash Drive Speeds etc

Hi there

I have a USB C Flash Drive which I got in order to transfer files from one laptop to another. The only thing is that at first it copies at a good speed (around 650mb/s) but after a few large files it slows right down to 15 or 20mb/s then goes up to 100 or so then back down etc. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening or is there an alternative product I can buy where I can just drag everything across in one go and it'll copy files at a decent speed until it's done?
For reference, this is the one I bought: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CP9DS1YL

It just drives me mad (no pun intended) as I tend to copy one folder at a time as it seems to help with the speed issue,
I do have very powerful laptops (i9 with 64mb RAM etc) so I don't think it has anything to do with that.... but certainly open to any suggestions.

The files/folders I am copying are usually media consisting of .iso files (SACD) and / or FLAC music files together with .mkv movie files.

Cheers.

I believe it's the peculiarity of USB flash drives, even worse SD/TF, they can't sustain consistency of speeds over long bursts.
I would suggest getting yourself an external NVME m.2 SSD drive with USB C 3.2 connectivity. 😊

Oh don't mean to be a techno-fascists, I'm sure you meant 64gb not 64mb! 😌

Ha - yes, I did indeed mean GB - I was half asleep when posting this 🙂
Thanks for the suggestion, I will look into it for sure. It does seem a common thing with these. This is the 3rd one I've had and they all behave in the same unpredictable manner!

Cheers.

Get something that would last, had a quick browse. You can find cheaper but better to veer towards the better brands than the generic stuff. All the best 🙂

Check the Amazon links below.

Or without the thrills and cheaper, same as mine - below

You don't need Gen 5 but this is going to give you the fastest speeds, backwardly compatible with Gen 3 and 4.

Thanks Sam, it is the cache.
Cheers Sam, I do have two Sandisk products, a flash drive and an Extreme SSD, I always prefer to use decent brands, the one I’m using now seems oddly to be better or at least more stable, but hopefully the suggestions made here will help moving forward.
Thanks again guys 👍
