Upscaling - Is my DVD player redundant?

I have got a Pioneer DVD868i linked to a Pioneer VSXAx5i for audio.

It has always played through a standard def TV and produced very good pictures.

I will be buying a new TV soon which will be HD and will also invest in a BluRay player.

I understand that BluRay players have upscaling capabilities to make DVDs look better when played through an HDTV.

My question is: Will a £300 BluRay player / PS3 play DVDs better than my £1200 Pioneer which is dedicated to the task?

Is it worth me keeping the Pioneer or will it just take up space on my rack?

Many thanks for any advice.

A decent HDTV should do the upscaling fine.

I have a Pioneer 525-DV which is older than yours, and my Pioneer 5090 does a great job of upscaling. I also have a PS3 and when playing DVD's, I can't see any difference in the PQ.

I shall keep the 525 at the moment untill I can afford to get a decent BD and CD player. The PS3 makes a bit of noise and, I think it takes up more electricity.
