Upscaling DVD Player

Hi,

I have a question for experts.

Does the pic quality vary if you are watching a movie played from upscaling DVD player connected through HDMI(1080P) on a HD Ready TV and HD TV?

Depends how good the DVD upscaler is and how good the Tv is at displaying the image.

The HD Ready set might look better if the player just upscales to 720p as opposed to 1080p (which the set would then have to downscale to fit the HD ready panel),. Again depends upon the TV (eg Panasonic TVs upscale all sources upto 1080p and then downscales, if appropriate, to fit the physical panel).

Any particular reason for the question? Any particular equipment in mind?

You might also find that it's better to send the TV (via HDMI) a signal at the original resolution and leave the TV to upscale.

Hi Rewerb,

Thanks for your response. I have a HD Ready Sony S Series 26'inches LCD. Recently I bought a Sony Upscaling DVD player and connected it through HDMI and I dont see a significant improvement in picture quality as compared to my earlier DVD player which was connected through compenent cable (480P).

Hence the question.
