upgrading home cinema speakers

I want to upgrade my home cinema speakers (not inc sub wfr) I an thinking of slimline speakers because of space etc, but I dont want to compromise quality of sound etc. so I am looking for the 4 surround & possibly cntr speaker. any suggestions, please dont point me towards wardrobe sized speakers thanks.+ who are the best speaker firms to look at who does good deals. thanks guys,

Can you give us some measurements for your maximum sizes.....

And a budget and what they will be used with would be useful.
